Michael has devoted his career to one fundamental responsibility: seeking justice for victims and holding dangerous criminals accountable. As District Attorney, he and his team prosecuted the Club Q shooter to the fullest extent of the law, worked to hold repeat domestic violence offenders accountable, and created Colorado’s first motor vehicle theft team that reduced motor vehicle theft by 50% in 2025.

He also created an Organized Crime Unit focused on dismantling fentanyl trafficking, drug cartels, and violent robbery rings. His office has prosecuted more fentanyl-death cases than any other district attorney’s office in Colorado and secured some of the longest prison sentences in the state for those crimes. Throughout his service, Michael has demanded transparency, accountability, and real results from the office tasked with protecting the public.

For too long, Colorado’s criminal justice system has put the interests of offenders ahead of victims. Repeat offenders are allowed to cycle through the system, accumulating arrest after arrest and charge after charge without meaningful consequences. Victims and their families deserve better. Under Michael’s leadership, public safety and justice for victims will be the priority.

As Colorado’s chief law enforcement officer, Michael will work with district attorneys, sheriffs, police chiefs, and law enforcement agencies across the state to confront crime wherever it occurs. He will advocate for laws that put victims first, use the statewide grand jury to investigate organized criminal activity that crosses jurisdictional lines, and ensure dangerous criminals are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The Attorney General must serve every corner of Colorado, not just the front range. Rural communities face unique challenges and often have fewer resources to address them. Michael will strengthen the partnerships between the Attorney General’s Office, rural law enforcement agencies, and district attorneys so communities across Colorado have the resources, expertise, and support they need to keep their residents safe.

Michael’s commitment is simple: Colorado families deserve to feel safe in their homes, businesses, and communities. As Attorney General, he will work every day to make Colorado safer, support those who protect us, and ensure victims are heard, offenders are held accountable, and the rule of law is respected.

Colorado families are being squeezed from every direction. The cost of housing, groceries, insurance, utilities, and other necessities continue to rise, while government makes taxpayers pay more so government spending can continue to rise. Michael believes government has a responsibility to live within its means and deliver real results for the people who pay the bills.

The Colorado Attorney General’s Office budget has grown by roughly 84% over the past seven years, even as crime has increased across Colorado. During that same period, Michael helped reduce crime in Colorado’s largest judicial district without simply growing the size of his office. He believes taxpayers deserve the same discipline from their state government.

As Attorney General, Michael will bring a results-driven and taxpayer-focused approach to the office. He will conduct a top-to-bottom review of spending, eliminate unnecessary waste, and consolidate operations when doing so can save taxpayer dollars without compromising public safety. That includes ending wasteful practices such as spending $4.5 million on office space that sits unused.

Fighting crime is also an important part of protecting Colorado families from rising costs. Every stolen vehicle, burglarized home, and shoplifted business creates real financial costs. Motor vehicle theft contributes to insurance losses and rising premiums. Property crime creates costs for homeowners and insurers. Retail theft forces businesses to spend more on security and absorb lost inventory, and those costs are ultimately passed on to the consumer.

Public safety is an affordability issue. Government should protect taxpayers not only by using taxpayer funds responsibly, but also by addressing the problems that drive up the cost of living. By reducing crime, eliminating waste, and demanding results from the Attorney General’s Office, Michael will fight to protect both Colorado families and their hard-earned money.

Government exists to serve the people, not the other way around. Corruption, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars undermine our confidence in government institutions and erodes the public’s trust. When public officials abuse their authority for personal, financial, or political gain, Colorado families are the ones who pay the price.

As Attorney General, Michael will restore the Attorney General’s Office to its role as an independent watchdog for the people of Colorado. He will investigate credible allegations of corruption, fraud, and misconduct wherever the facts lead, without fear or favor and regardless of who is involved. He will work with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to hold those who abuse the public trust accountable, recover misused taxpayer dollars whenever possible, and ensure that no individual, elected official, or government agency is above the law.

Michael will follow the facts and the law, not partisan politics. Every investigation, prosecution, and decision will be guided by one standard: what is right and what best serves the people of Colorado.

No Coloradan who has spent a lifetime working, saving, and contributing to their community should have to live in fear that a scammer will take it all away. Fraud, identity theft, financial exploitation, and deceptive business practices can do more than cost people money, they can also rob victims of their security, confidence, and independence.

Criminals are becoming more sophisticated. They use technology to impersonate trusted businesses, government agencies, friends, and family members, and increasingly target older adults and other vulnerable consumers. Protecting Coloradans requires more than responding after someone has been victimized. It also requires aggressive enforcement, strong partnerships, and prevention.

As a former consumer protection attorney, Michael understands the important role the Attorney General can play in protecting consumers. As Attorney General, he will aggressively investigate and prosecute those who prey on Colorado consumers. He will strengthen partnerships among law enforcement, district attorneys, financial institutions, nonprofits, and community organizations so emerging scams can be identified and addressed before they spread.

Michael will also make consumer education a priority. The Attorney General’s Office already recognizes that consumer education and outreach are important tools for preventing fraud. Michael will expand efforts to give seniors, caregivers, families, and consumers the practical information they need to recognize scams, protect their personal information, and how to report suspected fraud.

When a Coloradan becomes a victim, they deserve an Attorney General’s Office that listens, responds, and fights for them. Michael will make protecting consumers, and holding those who exploit them accountable, a fundamental responsibility of his administration.

Water is the foundation of Colorado’s economy, agriculture, communities, and our way of life. It sustains our farms and ranches, supports our businesses and growing communities, and makes possible the outdoor traditions that define our state.

Colorado is a headwater state. The rivers that begin in our mountains provide water to communities and farms throughout Colorado before flowing downstream to neighboring states. That is an extraordinary blessing, and a tremendous responsibility.

We must conserve and use water wisely. We must protect the watersheds and infrastructure that produce and deliver it. And we must vigorously defend Colorado’s legal right to the water that belongs to our state under the law and our interstate compacts.

We also must prepare for the years when the snowpack does not cooperate, and the reservoirs do not fill. The decisions we make today must be guided by sound science, reliable data, and a long-term vision for what Colorado will need, not just next year, but five, ten, and twenty years from now.

The Attorney General is Colorado’s lawyer. When it comes to water, that means defending Colorado’s water rights and sovereignty, enforcing our laws, representing state agencies, and protecting Colorado’s interests in interstate disputes. Colorado is a party to nine interstate water compacts, and those agreements carry the force of federal law once ratified by Congress. Colorado must honor its commitments, while also demanding that our neighbor states honor theirs.

When Colorado’s water rights or water future are threatened, Michael will be prepared to defend them.

Protecting our water, and growing our economy, are not competing goals. A reliable and healthy water supply is an economic asset that gives farmers, ranchers, businesses, and communities the confidence to invest in Colorado’s future. That means pursuing responsible conservation, improving infrastructure, embracing technology, expanding storage where appropriate, and using water reuse and other innovative solutions when they make sense.

Drought does not care whether someone is a Republican, Democrat, or unaffiliated. A farmer does not care what political party the person delivering their water belongs to, they just need the water. Protecting Colorado’s water should be an issue that brings us together, regardless of partisan politics.

The choices we make today will shape Colorado for generations to come. As Attorney General, Michael will defend Colorado’s water rights, honor our commitments, insist that neighboring states honor theirs, protect our watersheds, and work with farmers, ranchers, communities, and water experts to secure Colorado’s water future.

Colorado is a sovereign state, and our system of government was designed to protect the rights and responsibilities of states, communities, and individuals, and not to simply concentrate power in Washington.

As Attorney General, Michael will put Colorado first. That means fighting for Colorado’s interests and sovereignty regardless of which political party controls the White House or Congress.

When a federal administration exceeds its constitutional or statutory authority, threatens the rights of Coloradans, or takes action that harms Colorado’s legitimate interests, Michael will not hesitate to fight in court.

But independence does not mean turning the Attorney General’s Office into a partisan litigation machine. The office should not sue the federal government simply because of one person. Every potential legal action should be evaluated on the facts, the law, the Constitution, and the best interests of Colorado.

Michael will work with the federal government when cooperation benefits Colorado and challenge it when situations demand it. He will seek common ground when possible and stand his ground when necessary.
